Motorway M62 Traffic Near Huddersfield with Miles of Queues After Car Fire

Drivers are facing traffic delays of up to an hour on the M62 following a collision earlier this afternoon.

Two lanes out of three have been closed on the M62 eastbound between J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) and J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield), near Rochdale.

Traffic monitoring platform INRIX reported that affected traffic was currently queuing for six miles.

Is it thought the collision involved a car trailer, although this has not been confirmed.

Congestion is currently up to J21 for Milnrow. The opposite side is also seeing delays.

The M.E.N has contacted GMP and NWAS for details.

A vehicle fire shut the M62 eastbound near Huddersfield this evening (Fri).

National Highways Yorkshire confirmed the closure of part of the motorway heading towards Leeds, saying: “The M62 is CLOSED eastbound between J22 #A672 and J23 #Huddersfield due to a vehicle fire.”

Traffic management system Inrix said all traffic was held on the motorway at around 7.40pm.

One eyewitness told YorkshireLive she saw “flames and smoke” as well as ‘massive queues’ on the motorway that “go on for miles”.

She added police and paramedics were at the scene with officers holding traffic.
